2 million tourists a year will visit Astana by 2020

Thanks to the International Specialized Exhibition "EXPO-2017", 4.5 million people visited Astana, the media center of the Akimat reported. This is 2.9 million more than the same period last year.

According to Deputy Mayor of Astana, Malika Bekturova, the Akimat plans to increase the number of tourists visiting Astana to 2 million a year by 2020.

- In order to develop tourism we work with Horwath Company. In our new program on tourism, we aim to attract up to 2 million tourists per year, of which 1 million are foreign. Last year the total number of tourists was 831 thousand. Of these, 273,000 were foreign," Malika Bekturova said.

The Akimat and Ministry of Culture tested the activities carried out within the EXPO-2017. This will serve to create a list of events. Currently, the akimat predicts that following years Astana will see more than 40 international events a year.

"Also we are developing a center for tourist attraction on the basis of our cultural and sports facilities, the development of museums and entertainment centers. We selected 6 cultural and sports facilities, such as "Barys Arena", "Astana Arena", Ice Palace "Alau", Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, Palace "Zhastar", The Capital Circus of Astana. At the expense of transferring them to trust management savings will be about $ 11.9 million annually," said Malika Bekturova.
