Price for medicines can be regulated from October 2018

The Healthcare Ministry of Kazakhstan introduced a draft law on the distribution of drugs and medical products, reports the Press Office of the Ministry.

The law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts Concerning the Circulation of Medicines and Medical Products" was drafted in order to improve the regulation of this sphere and create a patient-oriented drug supply model.

There is a phased introduction of price regulation for all medicines. Starting from October 2018 - on drugs by prescription, from 2023 - for non-prescription drugs.

Medicines and medical products will be selected on the basis of an integrated assessment of health technologies. Through the formulary system, the introduction of a system for assessing and monitoring use, the code of ethical promotion will ensure the effective and safe use of medicines.

Harmonization of national standards in the field of inspection of medical products manufacturers will provide an opportunity for mutual recognition of inspection results through the use of equivalent standards and procedures.
