“Zhauzhurek” is in London

M.Auezov Drama theatre played Dulat Issabekov's "Zhauzhurek" drama at the 3rd International Festival of Arts in London, the UK. The director is Esmukhan Obayev who is a well-known artist in Kazakhstan.

The drama is about the life of famous Kazakh wrestler Nurmagambet Baimyrsauly who won the fame with his astonishing achievements in wrestling as well as with his singing and composing skills. Due to his talent and the fact that he lost one of his fingers by frostbite, he earned the name Baluan Sholak, which literally means a wrestler with no finger.

The drama was played on October 1 at the Stockwell Playhouse. Renowned theatre actor Yerlan Bilal played the protagonist.

The London Festival is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the legendary Kazakh writer, playwright Dulat Isabekov. The organizer of the event is the Aitmatov Academy in London.

Aitmatov Academy, founded in 2011 in London by Professor Rakhima Abduvalieva, deals with the translation of the Chinghiz Aitmatov’s works into the international languages and promotes the rich heritage left by the writer.
