Today Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev, in which he said that the reprimand that was given to the minister is equivalent to his removal from the post.

“In May, you signed a repair schedule for the refinery. In addition, you knew that in autumn two of the three factories would stand for repairs. This situation repeats every year and you had to prepare it and provide people with enough fuel and lubricants. This was not done,” said the President.

In addition, the Head of State pointed to the low effectiveness of previously taken measures by the Ministry to stabilize the situation on the fuel market.

“You suggested a number of good initiatives, which find support from me and Government. It was proposed to abolish the state regulation of prices in order to avoid a fuel deficiency. However, there is a petrol crisis again. In this regard, I made a reprimand to you, which is tantamount to dismissal,” – said the Head of State.

In his turn, Kanat Bozumbaev reported about the Pavlodar and Atyrau refineries’ modernization. He told that repair works will be completed this year.

In addition, Mr. Bozumbayev informed the President about plans for the construction of a catalytic cracking unit at the Shymkent oil refinery, which will allow the production of high-octane gasoline.

The Minister of energy assured Nursultan Nazarbayev that next year Kazakhstan's market will be provided with high-quality fuel, including aviation fuel.

In concluding the meeting, the President once again recalled the responsibility for providing the fuel market and instructed to take all appropriate measures to prevent a fuel deficit.

To recall, on October 10, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev held a broad meeting with members of Government, where he was disappointed for gasoline crisis in the country, which was continuing for several weeks. After learning the explanation of the ministry he dismissed the vice-minister of Energy Aset Magauov and made a proposal to the President on reprimanding the Minister of Energy. The next day Akorda announced that President Nazarbayev supports the initiative on reprimanding the Minister Bozumbayev. Based on the Prime Minister's recommendation, the minister was reprimanded for improper performance of the duties implied by the lack of proper control over the domestic market of fuel and lubricants.
