Today, November 20, the President of Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev held his final presidential press conference at his residence Ala-Archa.

As Akipress reports, the Kyrgyz President answered questions about criminal cases against politicians, reform of the judicial system, possible dissolution of the country’s Parliament – Zhogorku Kenesh, construction of the Verkhne-Narynsky cascade of hydropower stations, relations with neighboring countries.

One of the main questions that interested almost everyone was his comment on the relationship with Kazakhstan, which has been complicated after his calumniation against Kazakh power. There was hope that Mr. Atambayev would apologize for his “accusations” and hatred thus alleviating the tension between two fraternal nations. When a journalist finally asked the question, he continued his previous criticism against Kazakhstan and this time went further by comparing the Kazakh politicians with characters from Yaroslav Hasek’s novel “The Adventurers of a Brave Soldier Schweik”. He has again blamed Kazakhstan for interfering Presidential election in Kyrgyzstan and called the difficulties on the border as a blockade by Kazakhstan. He showed that he relies on Russia’s president Vladimir Putin, with whom he met in Saint Petersburg on the eve of the conference. He complained to Mr. Putin saying: “If you need the Eurasian Economic Union, you cannot stay calm and witness as it is collapsing”.

The Speaker of Kazakh Parliament’s Lower Chamber Nurlan Nigmatullin commented that during his presidency President Atambayev could not achieve serious result either in the economy or in politics, and when he is leaving the post he again demonstrates the complete absence of political and internal culture.

An expert on Central Asia issues Erlan Karin shared his opinion on Facebook where he writes that Atambaev did not set out any results of his presidency, did not bring any new figures, facts, and built as expected a press conference on next attacks in the direction of Kazakhstan. But, this is done intentionally. Almazbek Atambayev with his shocking speeches and anti-Kazakhstan rhetoric tries to lead the public opinion inside his country from discussing these very results of his presidency. Because the conclusions are not very comforting - Atambayev leaves the post of president, leaving an unenviable legacy to his successor.

To recall, Atambayev’s enmity against Kazakhstan and its power started during the presidential campaign for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan to support his nominee to win. He tried to show the second most favorite candidate Omurbek Babanov as a marionette of Kazakh politicians.
