‘The discussion about stabilization in Afghanistan or the meeting of the UN Security Council might be a reason behind the attack in Kabul, it is impossible to exclude this possibility’, commented Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister about the terrorist attack in Kabul.

According to him, the terrorists could use this opportunity to attract attention. He also stressed that Kazakhstan supports the US in resolving the situation in Afghanistan and recalled important role our country’s in providing a quality education for Afghans.

‘The US is making an important contribution to stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan. Kazakhstan fully supports the US administration's new approach to resolving the situation in Afghanistan and provides large assistance within the educational program of Kazakhstan. Thousands of Afghan students studied in our country, more than 500 of them have already returned to their country and have participated in the process to establish a peaceful life’, he noted.

He also stressed that the situation in Afghanistan affects the situation in all the Central Asian region. ‘Afghanistan is our neighbour; all Central Asian countries feel the influence of this state. Possible instability in Afghanistan affects the overall situation in Central Asia. That is why, during the visit of Kazakh President to the US and on the site of the UN Security Council, it was the main question to establish long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan, he said.

Recall, today a group of armed people seized the Intercontinental Hotel, located in the Afghan capital. As a result of the attack of militants, 35 people were dead, including one citizen of Kazakhstan.
