President Nursultan Nazarbayev answered the question of the Chinese television channel CCTV about Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the UN Security Council, which took place in January 2018, reports Kazinform.

‘Yes, we are proud. We are a young country, only 26 years have passed since we took our independence. We are honored to be elected non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Last month, I was in New York and presided over a session of the UN Security Council on the theme ‘Non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction: confidence-building measures’. Also, many new events held’, the President said.

Our goal and task are to work for stability, peace in our Central Asian region, he continued.

‘And since it is troubled in Afghanistan, what can be done to collectively help Afghanistan to create its own alternative production and stabilize the situation? This is our close neighbour, through which we could go to Pakistan, to India. However, its internal security is weak; it cannot ensure the passage of oil and gas pipelines, roads. Therefore, we have a common interest in ensuring stability inside Afghanistan, and we have worked in this direction. That is why we are proud that Kazakhstan is doing this work now, and it is highly appreciated’, the Head of State noted.

At the initiative of Kazakhstan, ambassadors - representatives of all UN countries went to Kabul, held talks there, and studied the situation inside the country. ‘The issue of confidence between states, which has recently weakened, unfortunately, is very important for the fight against terrorism and extremism. With this, you can only fight together, each state alone cannot. Terrorism is such an evil that arises everywhere. (…) Therefore, the relationship between states and special services is very important - that is what we are working toward’, he concluded.
