After the inspection of the new building of the railway station in the village of Akschi in Alakol district, Nursultan Nazarbayev chaired a meeting on tourism and development of the transport and logistics infrastructure of the republic.

During the meeting, the head of the region, Amandyk Batalov, reported to the President of Kazakhstan about the development of tourism in the Almaty region.

"The volume of tourist services provided in the region over the past four years has doubled — from 3.9 billion tenge in 2014 to 8.3 billion tenge in 2017. In 2018, it is planned to increase this figure to 10 billion tenge. In Alakol district, the volume of services in 2017 amounted to 3.5 billion tenge, which is 8 times more than in 2014," the akim of the region said.

The Minister for Investments and Development, Zhenis Kassymbek, reported on the implementation of the Nurly Zhol State Program of Infrastructure Development in the construction of local and national roads.

"In 2017 more than 4 thousand km of highways of republican significance were covered with road-building works, of which 603 km already opened traffic. In general, we believe that until 2022 all 24 000 km of roads will be brought to a satisfactory condition," the minister said.

Also during the meeting, President of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy NC, Kanat Alpysbayev, presented a map of the transport accessibility of the Alakol resort zone until 2020 and informed the President of Kazakhstan about the implementation of the strategy for the development of transit traffic.

Minister of Culture and Sports, Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, reported on the implementation of the instructions voiced in the Address to the people of Kazakhstan on the removal of all barriers to the development of domestic and outbound tourism, as well as on measures taken by the Ministry to maintain the post-Expo effect.

"The country experienced the economic effect of tourism in practice during Expo, when Kazakhstan was visited by more than 7 million tourists, which is 18% more than in the previous year. The flows of domestic tourism increased by 20% and amounted to about 6 million people," the head of the ministry noted.

Following the meeting and visits to the tourist cluster facilities, Nursultan Nazarbayev gave a number of specific instructions to the central state and local executive bodies on the further development of tourism in the country.

"Alakol should become the most visited place in Kazakhstan. It is distinguished by an advantageous location, which makes it accessible to residents of all regions. The uniqueness of the lake is in the healing properties of water containing radon, alkali and other useful elements. In this regard, Alakol is of great importance for our tourism industry," the Head of State concluded.
