N.Nigmatulin met with the delegation of the European Parliament

The Speaker of the Chamber Nurlan Nigmatulin met with the delegation of the European Parliament headed by the co-chairman of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee “Republic of Kazakhstan-European Union” Iveta Grigule in the Mazhilis.

During the conversation, N.Nigmatulin noted that deepening and expanding partnership relations with the European Union is one of the strategic priorities of Kazakhstan foreign policy.

Speaking about cooperation within the framework of the European Union Strategy for Central Asia, the Chairman of the Mazhilis focused on the large-scale initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev aimed at strengthening global and regional security necessary for stable development, including Central Asian countries.

At the same time, N.Nigmatulin expressed confidence that the adoption of the updated EU Strategy on cooperation with the countries of the region will open new opportunities for the implementation of joint mutually beneficial projects. In turn, Iveta Grigule noted that the European Union has always considered and considers Kazakhstan as the most important partner not only in the region, but also in this part of the world.

I. Grigule, stressing the importance of the President of Kazakhstan policy, aimed at resolving disputes exclusively through negotiations, called our country a good example in this direction, among other things in the Syrian issue solution, as well as the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan.
According to I. Grigule, the EU highly estimates the non-permanent membership of our country in the UN Security Council, as well as the role of Kazakhstan in ensuring security not only in Asia, but all over the world.

The European parliamentarian focused on the importance for the future of our country of the five social initiatives of the President.

The meeting participants stressed the need to develop the inter-parliamentary dialogue, the next step in strengthening which will be the 15th meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation of Kazakhstan with the EU, held today in the Mazhilis. Kazakhstan and European deputies intend to discuss foreign policy and security issues of Kazakhstan and the EU, the activities of our country in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018, the restoration of a peaceful life in Afghanistan and the contribution of Kazakhstan to the settlement of the situation in Syria. In addition, the agenda of the meeting includes economic and social reforms, improvement of investment attractiveness, energy security, regional cooperation, including prospects for the implementation of the Chinese initiative “One belt, one way”. Following the meeting, the adoption of the Joint Declaration is expected.
