AEF-2018 Panel Session discusses current issues of green economy

Today within the framework of the XI Astana Economic Forum, the Panel Session "Green Economy: A New Model of Sustainable Growth" was held. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev addressed his greetings to the participants, reports primeminister.kz.

In the course of the session, issues of renewable energy sources development and reduction of environmental impact, introduction of resource-saving technologies, green economy tools, attraction of investments in high-tech and knowledge-based industries were discussed. A rich open dialogue of all those interested in promoting the policy of sustainable development took place.

The list of the panel session participants, which was moderated by Director General of the Eurasian Media Forum international fund, R. Zhemkov, included such well-known world politicians as President of the Global Green Growth Institute, the VIII UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, Nobel laureate Rae Kwon Chung, the Permanent UNDP Representative in Kazakhstan, Norimasa Shimomura, former French Minister for Industry, Energy and Digital Economy, Eric Besson.

On the Kazakh side, Minister of Energy, Kanat Bozumbayev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan, Aliya Nazarbayeva, Head of the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, Rapil Zhoshybaev participated in the discussion.

One of the challenges today is securing long term economic growth, social stability and environmental balance. This is one of the cornerstone issues of global security, and Kazakhstan, as a country with huge natural resources, understands its responsibility in ensuring sustainable development and global energy security, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan noted.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev presented the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, created at the initiative of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, to the forum participants .

The Center was created on the basis of the Expo: Future Energy International Exhibition held last year in Astana and is a continuation of the Green Bridge Partnership Program, designed to strengthen green economic growth in the region.
