Bakytzhan Sagintayev participates in a meeting of CIS Heads of Government Council in Dushanbe

June 1 in Dushanbe, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev took part in the meeting of Heads of Government Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States and held bilateral meetings with Prime Ministers of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev, reports

The Republic of Tajikistan chairs the Commonwealth this year. Before the start of the Council’s session, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon hosted the heads of government delegations. At the meeting, the plans for joint work, as well as the forthcoming meeting of the Council, were considered.

The Council session was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus A. Kobyakov, the Kyrgyz Republic — M. Abylgaziev, the Russian Federation — D. Medvedev, the Republic of Uzbekistan — A. Aripov, the Republic of Tajikistan — R. Kohir, First Deputy Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan Ya. Eyubov, Armenia — A. Mirzoyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov, Permanent Representative Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Authorized and Other CIS Bodies, V. Sorochan, Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary S. Lebedev.

Traditionally, the meeting was held in a reduced and extended composition.

In a reduced format, the heads of delegations exchanged views on topical issues of economic interaction within the framework of the Commonwealth, heard information on the progress of negotiations on the draft Agreement on Free Trade in Services and resolved a number of organizational issues. The next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government will be held this autumn in Astana.

In addition, the Kazakh side raised the issues of the need for modernization and improvement of the Commonwealth under the forthcoming renewal of the Concept for the CIS Further Development and the Plan of Key Implementation Measures initiated by the Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev at the CIS Council of Heads of State in Sochi on October 11, 2017.

The main topics of the extended meeting were the issues of ensuring further strengthening of trade and economic relations between the participating countries. The tools of regulation of cooperation in the field of intellectual property, innovative development of power engineering, waste management of electronic and electrical equipment, interstate standardization and customs were considered.

Following the meetings of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS, a number of documents were signed, among them:

  • Agreement on the formation and development of the intellectual property market of the CIS member states;
  • Decision on the Concept of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the Field of Innovative Energy Development and Development of Advanced Energy Technologies and the Plan of Priority Actions for its Implementation;
  • Agreement on cooperation of the CIS member states in the field of waste management of electronic and electrical equipment;
  • Agreement on the distribution of documents on interstate standardization;
  • Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Affairs of April 15, 1994;
  • Decision on the Procedure for the Development and Financing of Interstate Innovative Projects and Activities within the Interstate Program for Innovative Cooperation of the CIS Member States until 2020;
  • Decision on the Regulations on the Congress of Teachers and Educators of the CIS Member States;
  • Decision on the International Youth Project of the Commonwealth Member States "100 Ideas for the CIS."

During the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev's meeting with Chairman of Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev, topical issues of bilateral economic and trade relations, cooperation in energy, industrial and customs policy were discussed.

The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly and open, confidential atmosphere.
