The National Academic Library in Astana hosted the awarding ceremony for the winners of the caricaturists' contest announced by the newspaper Egemen Qazaqstan. It is devoted to the 20th anniversary of Astana.

"We held a contest of cartoonists "Astana ayshytary ". To be honest, we thought a lot about this, because in our country for more than 20 years there have not been major contests of caricaturists. The last of them was held in 1994. There are only contests of the party "Nur Otan" on anti-corruption topics and other small contests. Nevertheless, we have a good school of cartoonists. Representatives of this school become prizewinners of serious international competitions. Therefore, we considered it necessary to revive this wonderful tradition," said the chairman of the board of the newspaper" Egemen Kazakhstan" Darkhan Kydyrali.

He also mentioned that some people perceive the caricature as criticism. Even some people said how it is possible to criticize the eve of the 20th anniversary of Astana.

"However, this did not stop us. After all, a caricature is not just one-sided criticism. First, this is a great art, a hidden subtext, a witty decision, a good idea, a combination of some valued judgment and criticism. It happens that the cartoon in its importance is not inferior to a great article or even a book. In large civilized countries, the press does not go without caricatures. This is a large part of it, a three-dimensional sphere. Therefore, we want to revive this direction, "Darkhan Kydyrali also noted.

Over 30 works from more than 20 people have been submitted to the contest from different parts of our country. By decision of the commission, the first place was awarded to Galym Smagululy from Almaty. Berik Kaynaruly from Oskemen took second place, and Kairat Baltabayuly from Aktobe was third. In addition, Almira Omarova from Taraz received an incentive award.
