Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov held a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, reports the MFA's press service.

During the conversation, the sides emphasized the steady and progressive nature of the relations between the two countries that reached the level of strategic partnership, and noted the friendly and trust-based dialogue between Kazakhstan and Germany, including at the highest level.

The sides discussed in detail the further development of the whole range of issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany, as well as implementation of the agreements reached following the talks between President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in July 2017 in Astana.

A significant package of economic and investment agreements signed during last year's visit of the German leader and including 21 projects worth more than $ 1 billion has already yielded the first fruits. Thanks to joint efforts, the trade turnover in 2017 approached €5 billion and over 90% of German investments are directed to the “non-resource" sector of our economy.

According to H. Maas, Kazakhstan is an important partner and Germany is ready for further deepening of cooperation. He commended the Fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau and the signing of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, with the adoption of which new prospects are opening for expanding economic cooperation.

The sides expressed mutual interest in implementing joint projects aimed at modernizing the economy and industrializing Kazakhstan. In this context, K. Abdrakhmanov invited the German side to be more active in exploring the opportunities opening with the launch of the Astana International Financial Center, IT Startups Park, as well as the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects. The sides agreed on the importance of ensuring a favorable investment climate for the business community.

They stressed the important role of a million Kazakh Germans in Germany and two hundred thousand ethnic Germans in Kazakhstan, acting as a “living bridge" of friendship between the two countries.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister emphasized the significant German contribution to the development and implementation of the 2007 European Union Strategy for Central Asia, which laid a solid foundation for cooperation between the EU and Central Asian countries. K. Abdrakhmanov noted that Kazakhstan would make every effort to effectively implement the new Strategy, which the European Union plans to adopt next year. In this regard, the diplomat informed his German counterpart about sending Kazakhstan's proposals to the relevant agencies of the European Union to be included into this document.

The ministers held a thorough exchange of views on topical issues on the international agenda, including the Syrian settlement within the Astana Process and the situation around the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program.

The sides highlighted the new qualitative nature of the interaction between Kazakhstan and Germany in the international arena in a multilateral format. The Kazakh Foreign Minister congratulated his colleague on his country's election to the UN Security Council and stressed that Kazakhstan, as a country that has been actively participating in the Security Council during the last two years, is interested in continuing close cooperation on all topical issues in the international agenda with new members of this most important agenda of world politics.

In conclusion, the foreign ministers discussed the schedule of forthcoming bilateral contacts at various levels. K. Abdrakhmanov invited H. Maas to pay a visit to Kazakhstan.
