Uly Dala Eline Sayahat — expedition on the route "New Silk Road" arrives in Taraz

The expedition on the route "New Silk Road," which is taking place within the framework of the Uly Dala Eline Sayahat project, arrived today in the city of Taraz, reports the press service of the club.

The participants of the expedition got acquainted with the two thousand-year history of Ancient Taraz. The city was located in the steppe center of the Great Silk Road, in which trade routes converged between Asia and Europe. Today, in the vicinity of modern Taraz, there are many historical monuments: the mausoleums of Karakhan and Davudbek, castles of rulers, original masterpieces of ancient architecture — the mausoleums of Babaji-khatun and Aisha-bibi, the Tekturmas complex, the Akyrtas palace complex, the baths of Kali Yunus, the archaeological park Ancient Taraz appeared on the site of the settlement and others. The mausoleums of Babaji-khatun and Aisha-bibi are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town of Akyrtas, 40 km from Taraz, was also visited.

"Our city, which conducts its chronology from the depths of centuries, now has a lot of cultural and historical monuments, legends of which are known far beyond Kazakhstan. Undoubtedly, this fact positively influences the tourist potential of the region. Every year archaeologists find in the vicinity of Taraz various artifacts and valuable relics, which are stored in local museums. We, on our part, are trying to develop the infrastructure, do everything possible to ensure the comfort and safety of tourists,” said deputy akim of Taraz Yermek Karabayev.

After exploring the attractions of Taraz and its environs, the project participants will head to one of the oldest reserves in Central Asia — Aksu-Zhabagly, located on the territory of Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.

Next, the Sairam-Ugam national state natural park located in the north-eastern part of the western Tien Shan, including the lake, will be visited. Sairamsu, which is at an altitude of 2350 meters. Also, the participants will visit such archaeological and natural monuments of the Turkestan region as the fortress of Otyrar, the mausoleums of Arystan-Bab and Khoja Ahmet Yassaui, the Sauran site and many others.

It should be reminded that Uly Dala Eline Sayahat is the most largest expedition in the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it is conducted along six routes with coverage of six tourist clusters. The purpose of the expedition is to study natural, historical, sacred sites for the development of new tourist routes, domestic tourism and infrastructure, as well as the study of the country. In addition, materials about the expedition will promote the popularization and increase of recognition of Kazakhstan as a tourist destination, and attracting the population to domestic tourism. As a result, new tourist routes will be formed, illustrated guidebooks will be created, a high-quality photo and video bank will be created about natural sites of the country, information on their condition will be updated.

The organizer of the expedition is Kazakh Tourism National Company under the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The route of the expedition "New Silk Road" is being realized by the QazaqGeography Republican Public Association.

Expeditionary group on the route "New Silk Road," which for 13 days should visit the territory of Almaty, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions, started September 17 from Almaty.

The expedition included experienced travelers, representatives of tour operators, foreign and Kazakhstan travel bloggers, as well as the team of National Geographic Russia.

The first days of the expedition were held in the Almaty region. Participants visited the Kazakh-Chinese border, where on the way to Khorgos visited a unique mosque in Zharkent. It was built without a single nail, while using the Tien-Shan spruce during construction. Then the participants of the project visited one of the most picturesque places of Kazakhstan — Kolsai gorge with its amazingly beautiful lakes and Lake Kaindy.

The route of the expedition continued with visiting Aktau mountain, Singing barkhans, Shokan Ualikhanov spring, Talhiz hillfort and attractions of Almaty: Medeo rink, Shymbulak glacier and Big Almaty lake. Also in the Almaty region, travelers were able to see the natural boundary of Tamgaly, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
