Another Italian classic race has been held today: 196,3-km-long Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli in Monteveglio, not far from Bologna. Astana’s rider Riccardo Minali finished 5th, taking fourth place in massive sprint just behind the solo winner Bauke Mollema, reports the press service of the club.

- I felt really good today, my legs worked well, so I hoped for a strong result. The team did a great job, protecting me the whole day. I stayed strong also on the climbs, even in the final, when the pace of the race has increased dramatically. So, it was not a sprint for a win, but anyway I tried to do my best. In a moment I found myself boxed in, so I had to break and to start again my sprint. In the end of the day I did 5th. So, that’s not bad. Now I am looking forward to the Gran Piemonte next week, - said Riccardo Minali.

Astana Team did a solid race, always staying in front and protecting Minali. Later, Andriy Grivko and Miguel Angel Lopez tried to surprise the peloton by double attack with around 65 km to go. Two Astana riders stayed in front of the race for almost 30 km, but later the main group caught them. After this, Sergei Chernetskii and Nikita Stalnov did their best to bring the late breakaway back, but inside the last lap it was Bauke Mollema, who made a decisive attack to win the race.
