Osh city declared the new cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2019

A new cultural capital of the Turkic world has been announced in the Turkish city of Kastamon, the press service of TURKSOY reports.

During the XXXVI meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of the TURKSOY member countries, important decisions were made that will shape the direction of the cultural and creative life of the Turkic world in 2019.

The status of “The cultural capital of the Turkic world”, initiated by TURKSOY in 2010 and first assigned to the Kazakh capital in Astana in 2012, this time was unanimously awarded to the Kyrgyz city of Osh. It was nominated by the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In addition, the year 2019 was declared the Year of the great Azerbaijani poet Imadaddin Nesimi in honor of his 650th birthday and the Year of the prominent Turkish folk poet and singer Ashug Veisel in honor of his 125th birthday.
