Zhenis Kassymbek holds a meeting on preparation for flood period

Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kassymbek held a conference call on the readiness of central and local executive bodies for the 2019 flood period, reports the press service of PM.

The meeting was attended by representatives of state and local executive bodies.

According to Kazhydromet's forecast, during the spring flood there are risks of flooding in some regions of the country.

Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the risks of flood danger persist in the Karaganda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay regions.

“In the last two weeks, 675 km of irrigation channels and canals were cleaned up. More than 2 million 160 thousand cubic meters of snow were removed from settlements. On the roads of Almaty, Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan and Turkestan regions, 16,874 outlets were cleaned,” Chairman of the Emergency Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Bekker reported.

According to him, a high level of flood danger has decreased for the Turkestan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Almaty (lowland), Mangystau, Atyrau regions.

Fire and rescue units are on high alert, the calculation of the forces and means of rescue teams planned to be transferred from the southern regions to Akmola, North Kazakhstan and West Kazakhstan regions.

In general, all units of civil protection bodies are fully operational.

Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Kairbek Uskenbayev reported that daily patrols were conducted in the country, more than 400 dangerous areas were taken under control. All necessary equipment of 689 units is fixed.

In turn, Vice Minister of Agriculture Yerlan Nysanbayev said that all reservoirs is monitored daily. Today, reservoirs are ready to receive flood waters. In general, the situation is stable.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the snow cover area of ​​Kazakhstan in the period from March 7 to 15 decreased by 11% (from 66% to 55%). From March 7 to 14, the snow melted in Zhambyl, Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Mangystau, Atyrau regions. In the remaining territories, the volume of moisture reserves in the snow cover decreased by an average of 20-30%, in some places up to 70% (Aktobe region), the depth of soil freezing in West Kazakhstan and Aktobe regions decreased by an average of 15 cm.

On-line, the deputy akims of the Karaganda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, East Kazakhstan and West Kazakhstan regions reported on the current situation in the regions and the measures taken.

Following the meeting, Kassymbek instructed the branch state bodies and local executive bodies to conduct continuous monitoring, keep the situation under constant control, and actively carry out public awareness campaigns.

“We are entering the period of the most active melting, this is the most intense period of flood time. Much work is being done in the regions, the population should be informed, people should know about the measures taken to ensure their safety,” said Kassymbek.

The Deputy Prime Minister also said that the government group will start working detours of the regions in readiness for the flood period.
