It is reported by the press service of the club.

It was a tough rainy day for everyone at the 9th stage of the Giro d’Italia with a hard 34.8-km-long individual time trial with a mountain profile to the city of San Marino. Astana’s Pello Bilbao did quite a good race, finishing with the ninth time, 1 minute 43 seconds behind the Slovenian Primož Roglič, who won his second time trial at this Giro.

Astana’s leader Miguel Angel Lopez did not spend his best day at the race, losing 3 minutes 45 seconds to Roglič after having a mechanical problem at the first part of the distance.

- Miguel Angel has got a flat tire quite shortly after the start, on a flat and technical part, immediately losing some good seconds. He tried to fight it back on the climb, he was not bad at all there, but, finally, he lost much time. It was just a bad day for our leader, we lost this stage, but, for sure, we did not lose the race. The Giro finishes in Verona and we still have many days to come there. All the main mountain stages are still lying ahead of us. Miguel Angel is still our leader in this race and we will keep on fighting, - said Alexandr Vinokurov, the GM of Astana Pro Team.

The current pink jersey Valerio Conti despite of a bad result in the time trial, was able to keep his overall leadership, still having 1 minute 50 seconds to Roglič, currently second in the GC. Pello Bilbao moved up to the 10th position, 3.32 behind the leader. Miguel Angel Lopez at the moment is 27th, +6.19.

Tomorrow, there will be the first rest day at the Giro d’Italia.
