The Italian stage race Adriatica Ionica Race has been started today in Mestre with a fast evening criterium ended with a bunch sprint won by the German Phil Bauhaus, reports the press service of the club.

Despite Bauhaus was awarded with the leading jersey, the results of the stage won’t be included in the general classification of the race.

For Astana Pro Team it was a day to find the racing rhythm and to prepare for the main part of the Adriatica Ionica Race.

- Today we had a semi official criterium race, its results won’t impact the general classification of the race. We had an easy goal – to get the racing rhythm after a long break, to feel the race. Starting from tomorrow the real race will go on. We have a few goals in this race. The first and the main goal is to give a chance to our Kazakh riders to show themselves, the second one – to help Davide Ballerini to prepare for the possible participation in the European Championships. Tomorrow we will have 23 km of white gravel roads, the route doesn’t look really hard,  but we will see, everything could happen, - said Giuseppe Martinelli, sports director of Astana Pro Team.

Stage 2 of the Adriatica Ionica Race will be held between Venice and Grado (189 km).
