The first meeting of the “Brazil – Kazakhstan” Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil was held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan, chaired by the Vice-Leader of the Government in the Lower House, Deputy Claudio Cajado. The event was also attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary friendship group, Deputy Angela Amin, Deputies Gervasio Maia, João Roma, Leur Lomanto Junior, Herculano Passos and other members of the parliamentary group, as well as representatives of business community.

Welcoming the guests of the event, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Kairat Sarzhanov emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue as an essential element in the development of bilateral cooperation. According to him, dynamic relations along the parliamentary line contribute to promoting political cooperation and implementing foreign policy initiatives of the state, strengthening economic interaction, cultural and humanitarian ties. The Kazakh diplomat, having informed the session participants about the current state of the Kazakh-Brazilian interaction, emphasized that the official Nur-Sultan highly appreciates the partnership relations with Brasilia based on friendship and mutual trust, which every year build up the positive dynamics of development and open up new opportunities for cooperation. In particular, Kairat Sarzhanov noted that engagement in the field of agriculture, energy, aviation and space has become the most substantive in recent years. Having voiced the composition of the parliamentary group for cooperation with Brazil in the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, the Ambassador expressed the hope that the meetings of the Parliamentary Friendship Group will be of a systemic nature, and invited the Deputies to visit Kazakhstan.

Deputy Claudio Cajado, warmly recalling his visit to Kazakhstan in December 2015, agreed that in recent years there has been a qualitative shift in the development of Brazilian-Kazakh relations. As the Brazilian parliamentarian noted, the strengthening of ties between the lower houses of the Parliaments of the two countries should create all conditions for maintaining a constructive dialogue.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Embassy of Kazakhstan for holding today's event, informing about the achievements of bilateral cooperation and the prospects for further cooperation. Obviously, there is enormous potential between our countries for the development of a successful partnership. We, the Deputies, will make every effort to further strengthen it”, concluded the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group.

During the discussion, members of the parliamentary group reaffirmed their readiness to participate in the implementation of joint initiatives to promote inter-parliamentary dialogue and bilateral cooperation in general.

The Parliamentary Friendship Group “Brazil - Kazakhstan” in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil was established in accordance with Resolution of the Chairman of the Lower House Rodrigo Maia No.26 dated December 7, 2017. The friendship group consists of 19 Deputies. The group is chaired by the Deputy Claudio Cajado, representing the Progressive Party of Brazil from the state of Bahia.
