K.Tokayev holds an extended meeting on the development of the oil and gas industry

As a part of working visit to Atyrau Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has held an extended meeting on the development of the oil and gas industry in the country, Akorda press service reports.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stressed that the fuel and energy complex plays an important role in the economy of Kazakhstan. Noting the importance of further development of the oil and gas industry, the President has set a number of specific tasks for the Government and local Executive bodies.

The Head of state has pointed to the need for further implementation of such major projects as Kashagan, Tengiz and Karachaganak. In particular, in order to systematically increase the level of oil production in Kashagan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Government, together with the consortium's contractors, to agree on a Road map for the full development of this field.

The President has focused on the issue of oil transportation from the fields located in the West of the country to other regions. He has instructed to complete the construction of the Kenkiyak-Kumkol oil pipeline by the end of this year. In addition, the Head of state expressed concern about the possible reduction of oil supplies to the domestic market.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also has noted the importance of effective use of natural resources and protection of the environmen. According to him, it is necessary to use modern technologies, upgrade outdated equipment, reduce emissions, prevent oil and gas leaks. An important priority in this work is to increase the openness of oil and gas companies and their environmental responsibility.
