Kazakhstan attends 59th session of the General Assembly of the WIPO

A delegation of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan attended 59th session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, press service of the ministry reports. 

 

 

September 30 and October 9, 2019, the 59th session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Sessions of the General Assembly are high level events organized by WIPO on an annual basis, attended by representatives of 192 WIPO Member States.

Minister of Justice Marat Beketaev made a statement from the Republic of Kazakhstan on the country's key achievements in the field of intellectual property at the opening ceremony of the General Assembly.

Bilateral meetings of the Kazakhstan’s delegation with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry, his Deputy Sylvie Forben, representatives of WIPO divisions, as well as with the heads of delegations from Germany, Singapore, France, China and USA took place.

During the meetings, issues of further development and expansion of cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with key partners and the promotion of its initiatives in the field of intellectual property were discussed.

In addition, a ceremony was held to sign the Memorandum of  Understanding between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the WIPO Mediation and Arbitration Center. This document will contribute to the development of alternative methods for resolving disputes in the field of intellectual property.

As a result of measures taken over the past year, the Agreement on the electronic exchange of documents between the RSE "National Institute of Intellectual Property" of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Eurasian Patent Office was signed. The agreement was signed in order to fully switch to the electronic format of sending Eurasian applications in order to optimize the registration procedure within the framework of the current Eurasian patent system.

WIPO is the United Nations specialized agency in the field of intellectual property.
