The Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Berdibek Saparbayev held a meeting on the results of the national teams on wrestling, boxing, weightlifting at recent world championships, primeminister.kz reports.

At the world championships, Kazakhstani athletes won 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze boxing medals; 3 silver, 4 bronze medals in wrestling and 1 silver medal in weightlifting.

The results of the competition and preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo were reported by Vice Minister of Culture and Sports Yeldos Ramazanov, Secretary of the National Olympic Committee Saken Musaibekov, Chairman of the Committee for Sports and Physical Education Serik Sapiyev, as well as head coaches of national teams.

According to Ramazanov, today Kazakhstan has 20 licenses for 9 sports, in total it is planned to win at least 100 licenses for the Olympics.

“The results are very bad. In boxing, they took the third team place, in weightlifting — 12, in wrestling — 14. The only gold medal among boxers. Although the support of the Ministry, the National Olympic Committee, federations and sponsors is up to standard. Then where is the result? The ministry weakly coordinates this work. Sport is the image of the whole country. Work on the mistakes to show decent results at the Tokyo Olympics. There is little time left,” Saparbayev emphasized.

The deputy prime minister also pointed to transparency and objectivity in the selection of athletes for competitions.

“In sports, there should be no favoritism, no discrimination! The best athletes must defend the honor of our country. It is necessary to develop mass sport, to train the young generation of professional athletes. We have a good material and technical base, so we need to use sports facilities as efficiently as possible, especially in the regions,” he concluded.
