The 2019 World Cancer Leaders' Summit is being hosted by the Kazakh Institute of Oncology and Radiology (KazIOR) from Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 October in Nur-Sultan.

World Cancer Leaders' Summit kicks off in Kazakhstan

Approximately 350 global influencers and leaders in cancer control and public health from across governments, UN agencies, academia, non-profit organisations and private sectors wconsider the ways in which cancer detection, treatment and care contribute to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage.

This is an invitation only event, without registration fees. The attendance is open to UICC full members, partners and select leaders from the global health and cancer communities.

Reducing the number of premature deaths caused by cancer requires addressing inequities in access to cancer services to achieve the UHC vision of "Health for All". With “Cancer and Universal Health Coverage” as a topic, the 2019 edition of the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit aims to focus attention on expanding access to quality preventive, early detection, treatment and care for cancer.

Issues to be examined during the day include perspectives on the relationship between strong, sustainable and ‘people centred’ health systems and the effective prevention and control of NCDs, promoting health equity in access to cancer services, and priority setting as part of the progressive realization of UHC.

The World Cancer Leaders’ Summit is a major annual high-level policy meeting dedicated exclusively to furthering global cancer control. The event brings together key decision makers from around the world and encourages timely debate on emerging issues related to cancer. It provides an important forum to secure a coordinated, multileveled global response to address the spiralling cancer epidemic.

The WCLS is traditionally held in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and is hosted by a UICC Member from the region.
