462 remote areas to have access to broadband Internet by the end of 2019

This was announced today during the Government hour in the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. Minister of digital development, innovation and aerospace industry of Kazakhstan Askar Zhumagaliyev told the deputies about the work carried out in the country to provide villagers with access to broadband Internet, press service of the ministry reports.

By the end of 2019, Telecom operators will bring fiber-optic communication lines to 462 remote rural settlements in eleven regions of Kazakhstan. Thus, 496 schools, 389 hospitals, 312 local governments, 13 departments of emergency services, 50 points of agriculture will be able to connect to high-speed Internet.

It should be noted that this work is carried out within the framework of the "Digital Kazakhstan" program to ensure access to high-quality Internet in remote villages. In this regard, 2 key projects are currently being implemented in the country. They are construction of fiber-optic communication lines which allows residents of 1,250 rural settlements to provide access to high-speed Internet to the  by the end of 2020. And the development of LTE (4G) mobile communication network and other technologies during 2020-2022 will provide Internet to 3,143 villages.

As part of the implementation of the above projects, 880 villages with a population of 250 or more residents will be provided with broadband Internet access by the end of 2020. The result of this work will be the connection to the Internet of 5,089 rural settlements in 2022.
