The Kyrgyz Republic has officially handed over the chairmanship of the CSTO Collective Security Council to Russia.

"Kyrgyzstan supports Russia's efforts aimed at ensuring stability and security in the region and in the world as a whole. Today, the CSTO chairmanship will be transferred to the Russian side. I would like to congratulate Vladimir Vladimirovich on assuming the chairmanship of the CSTO Collective Security Council and wish him great success," President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the CSTO Collective Security Council in Bishkek.

According to him, it is very symbolic that the Russian presidency coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the second world war.

"Undoubtedly, May 9 is the day of our common Victory. The Soviet people showed the world a unique example of unity, mass heroism and devotion to the native land. We must not forget our common history and stand together against attempts to rewrite it. Kyrgyzstan attaches extraordinary importance and special meaning to the Victory day. We remember with deep gratitude those who defended the freedom of our common homeland. We will hold major events on the occasion of the celebration of the great Victory," the leader of the Kyrgyz state said.

"I am confident that the Russian presidency will give a new impetus to the development of the organization in 2020," he added S. Jeenbekov.
