Kazakh Ambassador to the US visits Utah

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the United States Yerzhan Kazykhanov paid a working visit to Utah, during which he met with the Governor of the state G. Herbert, President of Brigham Young University K. Worthen, Director of the World Trade Center Utah M. Hansen, as well as with representatives of local American companies. It is reported by press service of the Ministry of the foreign affairs.


At the meeting with Governor of Utah G. Herbert, the parties discussed the development of bilateral relations, as well as promising areas of cooperation with the state of Utah.

The Ambassador held meetings with the First Presidency of the CThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, during which he shared information about the work carried out by Kazakhstan to strengthen interreligious and interfaith dialogue and the country's efforts in the field of peacekeeping, implementation of humanitarian projects, and maintenance of regional and international security.

Representatives of the Mormon community were particularly interested in the initiative of the first President – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev to hold a Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions. In particular, the American side expressed its readiness to consider the possibility of participation of representatives of the Church in the upcoming VII Congress in 2021.

In order to establish contacts with American companies in the state, at a meeting with the Director of the World Trade Center Utah M. Hansen prospects for cooperation in the development of the tourism industry and promotion of exports of domestic products to the American market were discussed.


The Kazakh diplomat also visited Brigham Young University where he delivered a lecture to students on "Kazakhstan and the United States in 2020: New Decade of Partnership" and answered questions.

As part of the development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries, as well as on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev and the 1150th anniversary of al-Farabi, Ambassador E. Kazykhanov presented the President of the University K. Worthen with a two-volume anthology of Kazakh literature and commemorative coins of al-Farabi.

Brigham Young University is one of the largest religious universities in the United States with more than 32,000 students. In 2019, this University was ranked first in the Forbes and the Wall Street Journal rankings in terms of price and quality of education.
