Kazakhstan adopts set of measures over coronavirus

Chairman of the Committee for quality control and safety of goods and services of the Ministry of health of Kazakhstan Lyudmila Byurabekova and Deputy Chairman Zhandarbek Bekshin informed the public about the measures taken to prevent coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan at a press conference held in the Central communications service. 

Cases of the disease have not been registered in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a family of viruses that cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. The registered virus in China is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. Clinical signs and symptoms of the disease are a fever with some cases of difficulty breathing, chest x-rays reveal invasive pulmonary infiltrates in both lungs. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and death.

According to the speakers, in order to prevent the importation and spread of the disease in Kazakhstan a set of sanitary, anti-epidemic and preventive measures has been adopted.

Recommendations was sent to official bodies about informing citizens traveling abroad tourists, students and migrants.

Passengers arriving from abroad especially from China, carriers, crew members, flight attendants are scanned by thermal devices at all checkpoints at airports and train stations in the country.

Employees of airports, border and customs services, flight personnel, and conductors of passenger trains are informed. Leaflets about infection were distributed to all travelling to China.

It is planned to conduct interdepartmental practice in case of detection of a patient with a suspected coronavirus infection at airports in Nur-Sultan, Almaty.

Overall, 14 713 people have been examined at checkpoints across the state border. No passenger has been identified with elevated body temperature and signs of illness among those who arrived from China.

There are no direct flights from cities of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Wuhan. There are direct flights from Nur-Sultan to the cities of Beijing, Sanya and Urumqi, from Almaty to the cities of Beijing, Sanya, Haikou, Xi'an and Urumqi.

Kazak health authorities recommend refraining from travelling to China unless it is necessary.
