750 people trapped in snowstorm rescued in Kazakhstan

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Yuriy Ilyin, as well as representatives "Kazavtozhol" and "Kazhydromet" informed the public about the situation on the roads of Kazakhstan due to adverse weather conditions at the press conference in Central Communications Service.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the Committee and 6 regional departments for emergency situations (in Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda and Kostanay regions and in Nur-Sultan) have established operational headquarters and opened a hotline. 

Recently, storm warnings were issued in Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, Kostanay, Mangistau, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan regions and in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Shymkent.

Currently, 95 sections of roads are closed, of which 61 are of national significance. Traffic restrictions were introduced for cargo and passenger vehicles on 3 sections of roads of national significance (Aktyubinskaya-1, VKO-2).

750 people were rescued, 82 of them children and 447 people were evacuated, 11 of them children.1 569 vehicles were rescued.

In order to warn the population about the threat of emergencies and accidents, 224 SMS messages were sent to citizens' mobile phones about the deterioration of weather conditions, 367 notifications were sent via the Darmen mobile app, and 155 calls were received to the hotline.

Only rescue work involved 913 persons and 607 units (170 employees and 55 vehicles), national guard (13 members and 4 equipments), traffic police (113 employees and 49 pieces of equipment), JSC "NC "Kazavtozhol" (510 employees and 442 units), local Executive bodies (95  employees and 51 units).

As of 09.00 hours on 27.01.2020, 601 units of equipment remain on 10 sections of roads in the Akmola region, and 53 units of equipment remain in the Karaganda region. The carrying out of rescue works and clearance of road sections is complicated by adverse weather conditions (snowstorm, reduced visibility).
