"Abai" cultural and information center opens in Prague

Grand opening of the cultural and information center "Abai" was held at National Library of the Czech Republic. Kazakh Culture and sport ministry also organized "Abai readings", press service of the Ministry reports.  

This year Kazakhstan celebrates 175th anniversary of the greatest poet Abai Kunanbayev. Culture and sport ministry of Kazakhstan is planning to hold more than 500 large-scale events throughout the year. 

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev mentioned the need to open Abai centers at Embassies of foreign countries in his article dedicated to the poet.

The center in the Czech Republic was opened with the support of Kazakh Culture and sport ministry, Ministry of Foreign affairs and Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Czech Republic. 

The main goal of the center is to contribute to the development of Kazakh literature and spirituality, to form a culture of reading Abai's works, to promote the study of the poet's heritage abroad by scientists and public.  

The center plans to hold book exhibitions, round tables, meetings, literary and musical evenings and other cultural events.

The center will also present the first editions of the novel "Abai", works and documents of artists about Abai, information about museums and monuments, copies of reproductions of famous artists who create the image of Hakim Abay, illustration books and photo exhibitions.
