As part of a preventive and stabilising foreign policy, German Federal Foreign Office launches Green Central Asia, a regional initiative on climate and security in Central Asia and Afghanistan from 2020.

Kazakh Foreign Affairs Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi attended a high-level conference on the launch of the regional integration project on climate protection "Green Central Asia", initiated by Germany in the framework of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia and Afghanistan.

In his speech, Minister M. Tleuberdi thanked the German side for the initiative, noting its importance and relevance for the Central Asian region. The Foreign Minister informed about the state policy in the field of green economy development, as well as about the activities of the international center for green technologies in Nur-Sultan.

The aim of the initiative is to support a dialogue in the region on climate change and the risks associated with it, thus fostering regional integration between the six countries involved. Green Central Asia will play a part in implementing the new EU strategy on Central Asia which was adopted by the European Council on 17 June 2019. Among other things, this strategy focuses on strengthening countries’ resilience to internal and external risk factors such as climate and environmental factors.

At the same time, representatives of Central Asian countries noted the importance of cooperation between the region and Germany and EU structures in environmental issues, in the field of environmental protection, introduction of elements of the green economy and the fight against climate warming, Kazakh MFA reports.

At the end of the conference, the heads of official delegations signed a Joint Declaration, which will be a basis for launching specific projects.
