In his speech, Minister M. Tleuberdi thanked the German side for the initiative, noting its importance and relevance for the Central Asian region. The aim of the initiative is to support a dialogue in the region on climate change and the risks associated with it, thus fostering regional integration between the six countries involved. Green Central Asia will play a part in implementing the new EU strategy on Central Asia which was adopted by the European Council on 17 June 2019. Among other things, this strategy focuses on strengthening countries’ resilience to internal and external risk factors such as climate and environmental factors.

At the same time, representatives of Central Asian countries noted the importance of cooperation between the region and Germany and EU structures in environmental issues, in the field of environmental protection, introduction of elements of the green economy and the fight against climate warming, Kazakh MFA reports.

At the end of the conference, the heads of official delegations signed a Joint Declaration, which will be a basis for launching specific projects.
