In 2019, Kazakhstan produced more than 260 thousand tons of salt, which is 14.8% more than in 2018, Agriculture Ministry reports.

Meanwhile, the domestic market in 2019 secured for 143% (243 thousand tons).

Kazakhstan in 2019 showed a sharp increase in the volume of exports of table salt. For 11 months, almost 85 thousand tons of mineral were shipped abroad in the amount of 6.3 million US dollars. Most of the goods entered the markets of the Russian Federation and Kyrgyzstan.

For comparison, only 3 thousand tons worth 102 thousand dollars were sent for export in 11 months of 2018.

Information on Kazakh salt allegedly containing impurities of unknown origin, including glass was actively distributed on the Internet last autumn. However, the manufacturer denied these reports, stating that the salt "Slavyanochka" contains a natural insoluble precipitate consisting of natural minerals that are completely safe for the human.

It was also stressed that all table salt sold on the territory of the EAEU is checked by independent accredited laboratories with the issuance of declarations of conformity.
