Agriculture inspectors destroy dangerous mandarin in Kazakh capital

The capital's state inspector on quarantine of plants revealed a large consignment of mandarin from Georgia infected with the Comstock mealybug, Agriculture Ministry reports.

The inspector seized 1,210 kg of infected mandarins to prevent the spread of the quarantine pest. Dangerous fruits were burned.

A court fined the owner of the product for 53,025 tenge.

The Comstock worm is a dangerous pest that damages vegetable and fruit crops, mulberries, garden, forest and ornamental plants. Worm colonies cause plants to shrink.
