Nursultan Nazarbayev condoles over the death of former UN Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, elbasy.kz reports.

The first President of Kazakhstan received with deep sorrow the news of the death of the Peruvian diplomat and politician, former Secretary-General of the United Nations Javier Pérez de Cuéllar.

"In 1991, I sent an application for admission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN in his name. Javier Pérez de Cuéllar made an important contribution to the process of our country's accession to this organization," the telegram reads.

"At this sad moment, I express my deep condolences to the politician's family and friends, as well as to his colleagues at the United Nations," the telegram sent to UN Secretary-General António Guterres reads.
