5 163 rural settlements to be provided with broadband Internet access

At the government conference call chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the issues of providing settlements with broadband Internet access were considered, primeminister.kz says.

Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Askar Zhumagaliyev, Chairs of the Board of Kazakhtelecom JSC Kuanyshbek Yessekeev, Transtelecom JSC Zhanbolat Nadyrov, Executive Director of Kar-Tel LLP Evgeniy Nastradin, as well as Akims of Akmola region Ermek Marzhikpaev and North Kazakhstan region — Kumar Aksakalov reported on the work in this direction.

The number of active Internet users in Kazakhstan is growing significantly, therefore, as part of the implementation of the Digital Kazakhstan State Program, the share of network users will be brought up to 88%, the level of digital literacy — up to 83%. The implementation of the tasks by the end of this year will allow providing 5,163 rural settlements with broadband Internet. This will open access in villages for more than 7.6 million people to online education, telemedicine, public services, and electronic commerce.

“The issues of providing uninterrupted Internet in a state of emergency are under the special control of the Head of State. Today, the Internet has become one of the main communication channels for the population, as well as an important component in such segments of the economy as electronic commerce, online education, electronic public services, health care systems, finance and others,” said Mamin.

The prime minister instructed the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and the Aerospace Industry, together with telecom operators, to take all necessary measures for the timely implementation of projects to provide Internet for the planned settlements.

Akimats of the regions were instructed to quickly resolve issues regarding land allotment for the construction of antenna mast structures and the construction of communication lines, as well as providing electricity
