The Ministry of Agriculture, as part of the policy of digitalization of the agro-industrial complex, plans to introduce an industry-specific system of traceability of agricultural products soon. This means that customers will be able to find out detailed information about food on the shelves just by scanning the QR code using their smartphone.

Thus, products in stores will inform consumers where they came from, who and when they were raised or produced, who transported them, which, for example, were vaccinated cattle from which meat products were produced, who was its owner. That is, it will be possible to track the entire path of products from fields and farms to store counters. A special mobile app will be developed to get this information.

A traceability system is being introduced to ensure food safety. It will also allow Kazakhstan to export its products. The Ministry intends to start with dairy products and chicken eggs, since the EAEU countries are also launching projects on labelling these types of agricultural products. Thus, in the Russian Federation, mandatory labelling of dairy products will be introduced from June 1 this year. From now on, to enter the Russian market, Kazakh goods will have to meet the new requirement.

Given that the implementation of the traceability system will require additional costs on the part of producers, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan proposed to launch a pilot project at the initial stage based on one of the domestic dairies. This will allow you to calculate the financial costs for each of the market participants and assess all the risks and consequences.
