Kazakhstan heavyweight Kamshibek Kunkabayev was selected as captain of the Kazakhstan boxing team, reports Olympic.kz.

He was chosen during the training camp at the AIBA.

“This is a huge responsibility for me. I understand that I should set an example for many boxers and athletes. Since the New Year, young boxers have joined the team. Our head coach has also changed. We will go forward together to the new achievements. We will work and defend the honor of Kazakhstan,” said Kunkabayev.

It was the first training camp of the season for Kazakh boxers under the guidance of a new coach Galymbek Kezhebaev.

Earlier, the function of captain was performed by two times Olympic medalist Adilbek Niyazymbetov, who ended his career last year.
