Senate Speaker Dariga Nazarbayeva meets with UK Minister of State for Europe and the Americas

Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva met with Sir Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Member of Parliament.

Sir Alan handed Dariga Nazarbayeva a letter on behalf of the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the Parliament of the United Kingdom Peter Norman Fowler, conveying congratulations on her election as the Speaker of the Kazakh Senate. In his letter Lord Fowler expressed confidence in further strengthening of ties between the upper chambers of the legislative bodies of the two states.

The UK Minister of State noted London's high interest in the political processes and transformations in Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh Speaker informed Sir Alan about the political processes occurring in the country. According to her, the early presidential election set for June 9 would become an important step on the path of the development of the country's political system.

The Speaker of the Senate expressed confidence that the country will ensure the continuity of the course towards the modernisation of the political system, as well as economic and social reforms. “The long-term strategy of Elbasy will remain the fundamental core of our foreign and domestic policy," Mrs. Nazarbayeva emphasised.

The sides discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations. The Speaker of the Senate noted the friendly and trustful nature of relations between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom, stating that the UK is Kazakhstan's important strategic partner in Europe.

Sir Alan described Kazakhstan as a key state in Central Asia and noted the major prospects for strengthening cooperation in political, economic, financial, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The sides paid great attention to the development of inter-parliamentary ties. Mrs. Nazarbayeva praised the work of friendship groups operating in the legislative bodies of Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom, and noted the regular contacts between parliamentarians of the two states.

The head of Kazakhstan's Senate expressed hope for the participation of a representative delegation of the UK Parliament in the 4th Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of the Eurasian Countries themed “Greater Eurasia: Dialogue. Trust. Partnership ", which will be held in September 2019 in Nur-Sultan.
