Askar Mamin and Dmitry Medvedev discuss prospects for trade, economic and investment cooperation

As part of his working trip to the Russian Federation, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held a meeting with the Chairman of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev, reports the press service of PM.

A wide range of topical issues of bilateral cooperation was discussed at the meeting. In particular, further strengthening and increasing cooperation in the trade and economy, investment and industrial cooperation, transport and transit, space activities, the development of cross-border cooperation and interregional relations.

“Open trusting relations between our countries are dynamically developing in all spheres, based on the strategic course of the First President – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin,” said the Prime Minister Mamin.

Mamin noted that “the recent official visit of the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Moscow and the summit talks gave an additional impetus to the development of the strategic interaction between the two countries,” stressing “the significance of the agreements reached, aimed at active joint work. And today's meeting is a good opportunity to discuss practical steps for the implementation of these agreements.”

The Chairman of the Government Dmitry Medvedev noted the importance of the prime minister’s visit to Moscow to discuss and solve a number of strategic tasks, to implement large programs that are on the agenda not only in a bilateral format, but also within the EAEU.

“Russia is the main trade partner of Kazakhstan,” said Mamin, noting that “to maintain the dynamics of trade and economic cooperation, it is necessary to continue working together to expand the range of goods and services supplied, establish direct contacts between the business circles of the two states, and promote goods to the markets of third countries."

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia in 2018 amounted to $17.6 billion, which is 7.2% higher than for the same period 2017.

In the context of new measures taken by the Government of Kazakhstan to attract investment, there was an exchange of views on further enhancing investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

“New approaches will create even more comfortable conditions for investors, including for Russian partners,” said Mamin, noting that “Astana International Financial Center has great prospects for financial integration within the EAEU, attracting foreign investment , development and promotion of capital markets of the Eurasian region."

A successful example of cooperation was the placement of common shares of the Russian company Polymetal on the AIFC Exchange in April 2019.

The parties noted the role of the Intergovernmental Commission for Cooperation in expanding cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan in June 2019.

During the working visit to the Russian Federation, in the presence of the heads of government of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin and Russia Dmitry Medvedev, an Agreement was signed on cooperation to implementat a project of machinery and components production for KAMAZ vehicles. The agreement was signed by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Morozov, Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Amaniyaz Yerzhanov, Director General of KAMAZ PJSC Sergey Kogogin, President of Kazakhstan Auto Business Association Andrey Lavrentyev, Board Chairman of BRK-Leasing JSC Nurlan Baibazarov, Managing Director of Tobolkz LLP Dinara Shukizhanova.

Andrey Lavrentiev and Director of JSC Peterburgsky Traktorny Zavod Sergey Serebryakov signed the roadmap for the project “Organization of Production of Kirovets Tractors and Components at Agromashholding KZ, JSC.”
