​Kyrgyz President Receives Kazakh Foreign Minister

During his official visit to Kyrgyzstan, Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov met with the country's President, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, reports the press service of MFA.

The Kazakh Foreign Minister noted that Kyrgyzstan was one of Kazakhstan's closest neighbors. “First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev always says that Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are brotherly states, we are good neighbors and friends, there have never been boundaries between us,” said Mr. Atamkulov.

The Foreign Minister stressed the positive development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz cooperation. This has been supported by the minister's close and fruitful work with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov, with whom he shares friendly relations that have helped to resolve pressing issues facing the two countries.

During the talks between the Foreign Ministers, the sides discussed bilateral cooperation, and the regional and international agenda. Agreements were reached on further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in order to address ongoing issues impacting the region.

The sides are also actively working to implement the task set by the presidents to increase bilateral trade to $1 billion by 2020. In this context, the effective work of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Council was emphasized.

President Jeenbekov commended the solid reputation of First President Nazarbayev. “The wisdom of your leader Nursultan Abishevich is known all over the world, he is highly respected by the leaders of many states,” said the Kyrgyz President. He also conveyed best wishes to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, noting that he was a high-profile politician. President Jeenbekov wished the Kazakh people a good presidential election.

The Kyrgyz President also emphasized that Kazakhstan was one of Kyrgyzstan's main foreign policy partners, and the Kyrgyz side expressed interest in further enhancing cooperation across all areas. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan mutually support developing regional economic cooperation and looking for new ways to increase bilateral trade.

The sides also discussed interaction within international organizations and associations, in particular the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Kazakhstan commended Kyrgyzstan's successful chairmanship and its active work in the SCO.
