The Italian classic race, Trofeo Matteotti, took place today in Pescara on the Adriatic Sea, wrote the press service of the club.

195 km of racing finished with a sprint of riders from the breakaway of the day, won by the Italian rider Matteo Trentin.

Astana Pro Team riders Yevgeniy Gidich and Merhawi Kudus finished in the main bunch, 25 seconds after the race winner.

- There were a lot of attacks from the start, finally, at the second lap a strong breakaway of 5 riders was created. At the same time, riders in peloton did not find a good collaboration in chasing these guys. At one moment our Dmitriy Gruzdev set a very good pace in the front of the peloton, and after this we tried to attack. We were 10-12 riders ahead, but we were caught very soon. Later, I tried another attack, we were four riders there, but we didn’t find a nice pace together and we were caught again one and a half laps to the finish line. Then I was sitting in the peloton and getting ready in case of bunch sprint at the finish. However, the breakaway managed to win. In general, these Italian classic races during the last week became a good preparation to the World Championships for our team. I’m in good conditions now, have a good motivation and ready to help our Kazakhstan leader in the upcoming mondial, - said Yevgeniy Gidich after the finish.
