National newspaper "Egemen Qazaqstan" celebrates 100th anniversary

In Nur-Sultan was held a solemn event "Zhuz zhyldyk zhylnama", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the newspaper "Egemen Qazaqstan". It was attended by a number of state and public figures, heads of the media, MPs, journalists and members of the public.

The celebration began with a demonstration of a small video about the history and present day of the leading national newspaper, which began to be published in 1919 as "Ushkyn". Later it was also published as "Enbek Tuy", "Enbekshil Kazakh", "Enbekshi Kazakh", then "Sotsialdy Kazakstan", "Sotsialik Kazakstan". After the independence, the publication was called "Egemendi Kazakhstan", and since 1993 - "Egemen Kazakhstan". Now its name is written on the latin based alphabet "Egemen Qazaqstan".

In connection with the anniversary of the newspaper congratulatory letters were sent by the First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev and Head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The texts of the letters were read by Secretary of state Krymbek Kusherbayev.

"I sincerely congratulate the leading publication of the country, the pride of the Kazakh press "Egemen Qazaqstan" on the centennial anniversary. 100 years ago, the newspaper was published under the name "Ushkyn" and eventually turned into a national publication of sovereign Kazakhstan. The reputation of the newspaper will always be on top, as it informs the public promptly and objectively, promotes among the population the state policy of an independent country, " the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan wrote in his congratulation.

Elbasy also highlighted the fact that the origins of the newspaper were prominent public figures. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the publication today meets all standards and requirements and develops in accordance with modern trends.

"I am sure that the journalists of the leading newspaper of our country will always be distinguished by high professionalism, and the newspaper will continue to remain a reliable bridge between the people and the government, to make a significant contribution to the development of society and the preservation of national identity," Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated. 

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his congratulation stressed that the event is relevant not only to the newspaper, but also to the whole country.

"Since its existence, the publication, defending national interests, ideals and spiritual values, has become the root of the Kazakh press. Even at the dawn of independence, the newspaper did a great job and contributed to the development of the country," the President's congratulation reads.

In addition, the President of Kazakhstan noted the contribution to the formation of "Egemen Qazaqstan" of such famous figures as Smagul Saduakasov, Zhusipbek Aimauytov, Mukhtar Auezov, Beimbet Maylin, Saken Seifullin, Turar Ryskulov.

"The staff of the newspaper even in Soviet times made an immeasurable contribution to the development of the native language, the preservation of national identity and culture, as well as the strengthening of statehood. "Egemen Qazaqstan" actively worked for the benefit of building the country under the leadership of Sherkhan Murtaza and Abish Kekilbayev. The chronicle of Kazakhstan was closely intertwined with the history of the main newspaper of the country. Since independence, every issue of "Egemen Qazaqstan" has published all initiatives and decisions, events of national importance. I am sure that the newspaper will continue its path of development for the benefit of independence, " - said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Krymbek Kusherbayev congratulated the staff of the newspaper on his own behalf. The Secretary of state stressed that today's event is special for Kazakh journalism.

The Secretary of state presented letters of gratitude of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Republican newspaper "Egemen Qazaqstan" Darkhan Kydyrali, Deputy Chairman of the Board Yerbolat Kamen, Deputy editor-in-chief Talgat Batyrkhan, as well as employee of the newspaper.

Winners of competitions for young journalists "Umit" and the "The shortest story" were awarded during the ceremony. 

The Chairman Of the Board of the newspaper "Egemen Qazaqstan" D. Kydyrali also addressed the audience.

At the end of the festive event, a new song "Ultymnyn unparagy" sounded from the stage, which became an anthem of "Egemen Qazaqstan". Elena Abdykalykova sang the anthem of the newspaper alongside with young journalists of the newspaper.

It is also worth noting that a special exhibition illustrating the history of the publication was organized. The exhibition featured old cameras, typewriters, books, personal belongings of legendary personalities who worked for the newspaper.
