President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan Mr. Timur Kulibayev held a meeting with heads of NOC departments on preparations for the upcoming summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, reports.

178 days before the start of the Olympics, Departments and services of the main Olympic department of the country reported on the intermediate results of their work.

Since last year, a Committee has been created and operates at the NOC, which regularly monitors the training process of athletes and in contact with the head coaches of the national teams in a daily basis.

"All planned events in preparation for the Olympic Games are being held according to the schedule, none of them were disrupted. All conditions for the training are created for all teams", reported Director of the Sports Directorate Yelsiyar Kanagatov.

This year, it is planned that domestic athletes will participate in two licensed world championships, 12 world qualifying tournaments, as well as 22 stages of the world cup, 30 stages of the Grand Prix and international rating tournaments. In addition to the main issues of preparation for Tokyo, the President of the NOC instructed the Directorate of Sports to analyze the results of the Youth Winter Olympics, which recently ended in Lausanne, where Kazakhstan athletes were left without medals of the Youth Games.

"Despite the fact that the activities of the NOC are aimed at training the adult composition of national teams, we should not remain indifferent to the training process of youth - this is our reserve. We should keep an eye on those who we will rely on in the future for the national team," Mr. Timur Kulibayev said.

The fight for "clean" sport and zero tolerance for doping will remain one of the main priorities in the work of Kazakhstan NOC. In December the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed the Law "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on physical culture and sport", which ensures stricter responsibility for the usage, prescription and distribution of prohibited drugs and substances.

"Zero tolerance for doping shouldn't just be on papers. If athletes fail us, we will take effective actions towards them. Above all, other athletes should see and know the consequences of their actions and be aware of the full extent of responsibility for uncceptable behavior," said the President of Kazakhstan NOC, stressing that it is necessary to continue to raise awareness among athletes.

Summer Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020 in Tokyo. Today, Kazakhstan's national team holds 27 Olympic licences in 14 sports.
