Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia discuss rehabilitation of the affected by destructive religious movements

Kazakh Minister of Information and Social Development Dauren Abayev discussed issues of mutual concern with the Minister of Islamic Affairs of Saudi Arabia.

Dauren Abayev and Dr. Abdullatif Alsheikh discussed cooperation on the rehabilitation of citizens affected by destructive religious movements.

The meeting took place on February 2, 2020 in Riyadh.

Dauren Abayev noted that Kazakhstan highly appreciates the efforts of Saudi Arabia aimed at strengthening the role of Islam in the world, promoting the true, peaceful essence of religion-tolerant and uniting all peoples.

"We know that today Saudi Arabia is leading an uncompromising fight against radical extremism and terrorism. Kazakhstan has always condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and supports the adoption by the international community of effective collective efforts to eradicate this phenomenon," Kazakh Minister assured.

Dr. Abdullatif Alsheikh noted the depth and strength of fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Kazakhstan, stressing that the Kingdom values its relations with its brothers in countries where Islam is widespread.

The sides exchanged views on ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the spiritual and religious sphere and views on topical issues of the current state of Islam.

Following the meeting, the Ministers agreed to intensify the exchange of experience and information on the prevention of radical religious movements, in particular by conducting counter-propaganda work to protect the population from the influence of extremist religious ideology.

As part of studying the best practices of colleagues from Saudi Arabia, Dauren Abayev got acquainted with the activities of the Mohammed bin Nayef rehabilitation Center and visited the center for ideological warfare under the Ministry of defense.

Also in Riyadh, Dauren Abayev met with Minister of Media Minister Turki Al-Shabanah. The Ministers discussed the prospects of cooperation in the field of mass media and agreed to conclude a Memorandum between the largest news agencies of the two countries – KAZINFORM news agency and the Saudi news agency.
