Kazakh Healthcare Ministry and WHO agreed on ensuring public health

Kazakh Healthcare Minister Yeljan Birtanov and Director of the European regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Hans Kluge signed of the two-year Agreement for 2020-2021 on cooperation in accordance with the country's main health priorities.

The main goal of the Agreement is to provide broad opportunities for improving the health of citizens and reducing health inequities by applying an intersectoral approach in all areas of state development with the involvement of society.

Yelzhan Birtanov noted that the joint work of the Kazakh Government and the WHO European Bureau within the framework of the signed bilateral cooperation Agreement will contribute to improving Kazakh citizens' health.

Dr Hans Kluge listed the areas in which they will cooperate. These include improving access to quality health services and essential medicines, including vaccines; influencing health determinants - factors that affect people's health, such as living conditions and the environment; promoting cooperation between different national sectors to address the country's most pressing health priorities; digitalizing the health system; and sub-regional health cooperation.

Special attention will also be paid to supporting Kazakhstan in strengthening the health emergency preparedness program.

In general, it was noted that cooperation within the framework of the Agreement will bring the interaction of the parties to a new level. This is now particularly important in the light of ensuring the safety of citizens ' health in order to prevent the spread of a new type of coronavirus.
