1 timeviewed

Kazakh Agriculture Ministry commented on media reports about a sharp increase in prices for meat and meat products.

According to the Statistics Committee, consumer prices for all types of goods increased by an average of 0.7% in January 2020 compared to December 2019. At the same time, food prices increased by 0.9%.

Food prices have increased: for bakery products by 0.5%, meat, including meat products by 0.5%, fish and seafood by 0.7%, dairy products by 0.9%, oils and fats by 0.4%, fruits and vegetables by 3.3%, confectionery products by 0.3% and soft drinks by 0.5%.

Prices for fruits, vegetables and dairy products increased sharply to compare with other food products. The increase in prices for meat and meat products is lower than the average increase for all food products, says the Ministry.

There are many reasons for the increase in prices for meat and meat products. One of the reasons can really be called the mass export of livestock in the past year.

Another reason for the increase in meat prices is the high price of grain, which is used to prepare feed for cattle.

To some extent, the indirect cause of the increase in meat prices could be weather conditions in early 2020, which disrupted the schedule of meat deliveries to cities.
