19 thousand foreign citizens work in Kazakhstan

19,137 foreign citizens work on the territory of Kazakhstan with the permission of local executive bodies as of February 1, 2020.

According to Ministry of labour and social protection, 753 people (4%) work in the first category as managers and deputies, the number of workers at the second category (heads of structural divisions) is 4,364 (23%).

There are also 9,613 foreign specialists and 1,749 skilled workers residing in Kazakhstan.

926 foreign citizens engaged in seasonal jobs, 1,732 people are involved in the corporate transfer.

The number of employers who attracted foreign labour is 2,021, employing 479,342 Kazakh citizens, which is 96% of the total number of employees.

The largest number of foreigners work in the construction sector – 8,582 people (45%). The mining industry employs 2,228 people (12%), the manufacturing industry employs 1,586 (8%) and 1,397 foreigners (7%) are involved in professional, scientific and technical activities.

5,266 labour migrants are from China, 1,935 are from Turkey, 1,896 workers are from India, 1,434 of foreign workers in Kazakhstan are British and 965 of them are from Uzbekistan.

Kazakh government sets an annual quota for attracting foreign specialists to the country in order to protect the domestic labour market. 29.3 thousand foreign citizens are allowed to work in Kazakhstan in 2020.
