Two golds, nine licenses: Kazakh boxing team at the Olympic qualifying tournament

The most important Boxing tournament in which Olympic licenses were awarded has finished in Amman. Kazakh team won 2 gold medals and 9 licenses, reports.

Eight men and five women competed from Kazakhstan. Among women only one was able to reach the podium and qualify for the Olympic games. Nadezhda Ryabets succeded in the category up to 75 kilograms.


In the semi-final the 19-year-old was stopped by Australian Caitlin Parker. Ryabets was awarded a bronze medal. Note that in 2018, she won the bronze medal at the Youth Olympics.

Dametken Kelembet (57 kg), Rimma Volosenko (60 kg), Angelina Lucas (51 kg), Valentina Khalzova (60 kg) lost their fights.


In men's team only one boxer was left without the award. Saken Bibosynov (52 kilograms) lost in the quarterfinals. However, he got the opportunity to fight for a license. In its weight category, six trips were played: four were taken by the semi-finalists, and the remaining two were divided between boxers who lost in 1/4. Bibossinov was stronger than Carlo Paalam from the Philippines getting Kazakhstan the eighth license.

Kazakh team have eight qualifications out of eight possible ones.


Olympic license holders are the following:

- Saken Bibossinov (52 kg)
- Serik Amirjanov (57 kg)
- Zakir Safiullin (63 kg)
- Abylaykhan Jusupov (69 kg)
- Abilkhan Amankul (75 kg)
- Bekzat Nurdauletov (81 kg)
- Vasily Levit (91 kg)
- Kamshybek Kunkabayev (over 91 kg).


World qualifying tournament which will be held in Paris will be the last opportunity for women to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.

The coaching staff now need to sort out mistakes, adjust the squad, change some points in the training plan and then get licenses in the French capital.


Four Kazakh athletes competed in the finals. The captain of the team Kamshybek Kunkabayev was not able to fight for the top place. The heavyweight did not enter the ring during the semifinal round due to an injury. Thus, he won the bronze award. Serik Amirjanov and Abylaikhan Zhusupov were also third.

Abilkhan Amankul and Zakir Safiullin finished the tournament with silver. Bekzat Nurdauletov and Vasiliy Levit won their fights.


In total, Kazakh boxing team won nine Olympic licenses and eight medals two "gold", two "silver" and four "bronze".
